Macau - Asia's Sin City - Part 1

There are three ferry terminals to catch a ferry from Hong Kong to Macao: Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal, China Ferry Terminal, and Skypier Hong Kong International Airport Ferry Terminal.

If you plan to go to Macao as soon as you arrived in Hong Kong, you can use the one in Lantau Island: Skypier Hong Kong International Airport Ferry Terminal

If you lived in Kowloon Area, you can use the one in Kowloon Island: China Ferry Terminal.

If you lived in Central Area, you can use the one in Hong Kong Island: Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal (Shun Tak Center).

Even though  both Hong Kong and Macau are part of China, you have to go thru the immigration when you are taking ferry. Both cities also use different currency: Macanese pataca (MOP) and Hong Kong dollar (HKD). There are three major ferry companies: TurboJet, Chu Kong Passanger Transport, and Cotai Water Jet.  It takes about an hour from Hong Kong to Macau. Macau has two harbor: the one in Macau Island and the one in Taipa.

During my visit, I take a ferry boat from China Ferry Terminal as I live in Kowloon area from Hong Kong to Macau Taipa Ferry  Terminal in Macau thru Cotai Water Jet. You can visit this link for schedule and price information fro Cotai Water Jet: link. To get a cheaper price, there are a promotion link.

Most hotels in Macau has a bus service from the airport and ferry terminal to the hotel.  We stay in JW Marriott at Galaxy Macau (Review).

Macau has two big islands (Macau Peninsula & Cotai - Taipa) connected with three bridges: Pte. de Sai Van, Pte. Da Amizade, and Pte. Gov. Nobre de Carvalho. Most people cross the two islands via Pte. Gov. Nobre de Carvalho. Each island has lots of attractions. During my visit, the city is in the development process. In Las Vegas, all the major casinos and attractions are located in Las Vegas Blvd and it is easy to explore. It is different in Macau. From Galaxy Macau to Venezian or MGM, you have to take a taxi or bus. Even though there is a free shuttle from the hotel, but the queue is long. Hopefully, with the new LRT (subway), it will make it easier to go around the major attractions in Macau.

Hotels & Casinos

Like Las Vegas, one of the major attractions in Macau is to visit each hotel and see the architecture of the building and the attractions that the hotel offers. To go to one hotels and casinos to another, you can take a free shuttle bus from the hotel. There are times when the lines are very long. The popular hotels in Macau that are worth to visit:

1. Galaxy MACAU

Galaxy Macau has 6 hotels: The Ritz-Carlton, Banyan Tree, JW Marriott, Hotel Okura, Broadway, and the Galaxy hotel. The Galaxy Macau has a high-end shopping mall, food court, casino, etc. The Broadway Macau has hawker-style street market delivering authentic food and great entertainment.

2. Venetian MACAU

3. City of Dreams MACAU

Two popular attractions in city of dreams are "The House of Dancing Water" show and "Dragon's Treasure" show. I recommend to watch "The House of Dancing Water" as it is the same as Cirque du Soleil: "O" or "La Reve" in Las Vegas. City of Dreams is also has a nice themed of restaurants.
