One Night in Frankfurt - Guide to Buy Public Transportation Ticket

Itinerary: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bys9H9hPgFspSHVSdV9VUTVZbzg
From Palais Garnier, I checked out at the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand hotel and went to Paris Est station to take ICE to Frankfurt, Germany. It took about 4 hours from Paris Est Station to Frankfurt (Main) Hbf. Initially, I planned to stay in Downtown Frankfurt for one night but I changed my mind and stayed at the hotel near the Frankfurt airport as I had my two luggage in storage in the Frankfurt airport and I would like to rearrange all the clothing and items that I bought during my trip in Brussels and Paris. I should buy the train ticket that directly go to airport, Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen, so I did not have to take a regional train to the airport. However, it takes only 10 minutes from Frankfurt (Main) Hbf to the airport, Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen. For information regarding the ICE ticket, please visit this link

In Frankfurt, the subway system is based on honor system. You do not have to swipe or scan your ticket to go the train platform. After you buy the ticket, you can directly go to the train platform and take any trains to your destinations. No one will check the ticket but there are officers that will do the random check and you will fined €60 if they find out that you do not have the ticket. In other cities in German, you actually have to validate your ticket using a ticket validator.

It is very easy to buy a metro ticket. You just need to find the RMV or DB ticket machines. Both RMV and DB shares the ticket machines. The ticket machines are very user-friendly.

To start with, you need to change the language to English or your language preference. (The flag at the bottom of the page) Then, you need to choose the preference ticket that you want to buy, one way ticket, day ticket, or group ticket.

The cost for one way ticket (Einzelfahrt) costs 4.65 for Zone 4. This ticket will take you from Frankfurt City to Frankfurt Airport or the other way around. If you use it to go to Frankfurt city, the ticket is valid to get you to your final destination including tram, bus, S-bahn or U-bahn as long as you travel non-stop. For dayticket (Tageskarte), it costs 9.10. This includes travel to and from the airport as well as all public transportation in the Frankfurt City.

If you are in group of 2 up to 5, you can buy a groupday ticket (Gruppentageskarte) for 15.80. It works the same as the dayticket that includes travel to and from the airport as well as all public transportation in the Frankfurt City. For more information regarding the ticket and price, follow this link. Note: the fares has been going up since my visit in Frankfurt. If you plan to go to other than Downtown Frankfurt than you might have to check the fares as it might be different such as the ticket from Frankfurt (Main) Hbf to Wiesbaden (Zone 5) costs 8.52 for one way ticket (Einzelfahrt). Also, you can purchase a first-class ticket if you choose to but I do not find it necessary.

As I arrived at 11 PM, I bought one way ticket (Einzelfahrt) instead of the dayticket as the dayticket only valid until 4:00 AM the next day, no matter what time you buy it. From Frankfurt Airport to Downtown Frankfurt, you can take either S8 or S9. It is about 3 stops to Frankfurt (Main) Hbf. For the public transportation maps, please check this link.

Once you buy the ticket, you can check the schedule inside the train station and go to the right platform.
