Itinerary to South Korea

Day 6: Jeju Island

Jeju City

I rented a car for three days at Jeju City via KT Kumho. TIPS: To get a cheap rental rate, sign up an account at KT Kumho website and reserve 1-2 months before arrival. Without an account, the rental is very expensive. The rental procedure was very easy. Also, we rented English language GPS for extra money.

W Shinjeju Hotel

From Lotte rent-a-car, we drove to our hotel, W Shinjeju hotel. This is a budget hotel since we only stay here for a short time. I would rate 3/5 for this hotel rating. The room and bathroom itself was very large but the downside was a little bit of dusty. If you have a sensitive skins like us, then you do not want to choose this place to stay.

Heukdonga

After taking a shower, we drove to have dinner. In Jeju Island, one of the famous dishes is black pork. There were lots of restaurants around that serve black pork. The most famous one was Heukdonga. Four of us like this restaurant a lot. My sister also ordered mul-naengmyeon which was just okay in here.

In front of this restaurant, there was also a restaurant that served black pork called as Neulbom. This restaurant was bigger and also crowded but not as popular as Heukdonga. They also open in Seoul nowadays and other areas with a total of 13 restaurants in South Korea. After finish eating, we went to Lotte Mart to buy water, breakfast, and snacks for tomorrow because it would be a long drive to Seogwipo area the next day.

Yongduam Rock & Yongyeon Pond

It was 11 PM already by the time we finished our shopping at Lotte Mart. We decided to visit Yongduam Rock since I heard the rock look beautiful during the night time. That was true but I prefer to go during daytime in the future since I cannot take any pictures during the night time. It was too dark there. On the way there, I went to the wrong place. Instead of Yongduam Rock, we went to Yongyeon Pond that I did not plan to go. Luckily, we went here because I thought this place was more beautiful that Yongduam Rock.

Yongyeon Pond was an estuary where the seawater and freshwater meet.

Next, we drove to Yongduam Rock.Yongduam rock was created by strong winds and waves over the thousands of years.

We then headed to our hotel to sleep and continue the next day.

Day 7: Jeju Island

It was very easy to drive around Jeju Island with GPS. One thing to know on how to use the Korean GPS was to know the phone number of the destination. By plugged in the phone number, the GPS would calculate the route to the destination. Please look at my trip itinerary on Part I that showed all the phone number for the destinations. Near the tourist destination, there was always a road sign that would let us know that we was on the right place. The tourist destination road sign was always written in a brown background color.  There were speed sign and speed radar every 1 or 2 km at the major road such as the road from Seogwipo to Seongsang Ichulbong. Most korean however drove very fast more than the speed limit and slow down when they reached the speed radar area. The GPS that we rented showed the distance of the car to the speed radar detector located.

Soesokkak Estuary

It was time to get ready to drive to Seogwipo area where the most attractions and the Jungmun resorts located. We woke up early this morning since there were many destinations I would like to visit. It was not a good day today due to the rain. The drive from Jeju-si to Seogwipo was nice and scenery. We drove thru Road 1131 that went thru Hallasan National Park. The road was up and down thru the mountain and lots of curbs. The first destination was Soesokkak Estuary.

I knew this location from one of the running man and 2 days 1 night episode. In running man episode 89 with guest BOA and Jung Jae Hyung, the theme was running man in wonderland. At the beginning of the show, they were looking for a gate to the wonderland. This gate was located in Soesokkak Estuary where the seawater and freshwater met.

When we got here, it was raining and we ended up buy umbrellas from one of the stores in front of the picnic house where BoA standing. While we bought the umbrellas, we also bought a fresh Jeju orange juice. It was very sweet. During the summer time, there was a kayaking tour, a flatbox wooden boat tour, and floating water bike experience.

Next to Cheonjiyeon, there was a restaurant "Geobuhan Jeongsig" and we decided to eat here for lunch. I would rate 3/5 for the food, service, and restaurant. If I visit again, I would not likely to go back to eat again. The food was edible but not very good in term of the taste.

Oedolgae Rock

From Cheonjiyeon Falls, we went to Oedolgae Rock. I knew this place from Dae Jang Geum TV drama.

Cheonjeyeon Falls

From Oedolgae Rock, we drove to the next destination. Cheonjeyeon Falls. Cheonjeyeon means "The Pond of God". There were three sections of the waterfalls before went to the sea. When we got here, the raining was getting worse. My mom and sister decided not to go down since there were lots of stairs to the third falls. My dad and I went all the way there. In the valley, there was a bridge called as Seonimgyo Bridge known as arch bridge with seven fairies. This bridge connects the Cheonjeyeon with the Jungmun tourist complex.

Teddy Bear Museum

It was still raining at the times I finished at Cheonjeyeon Falls. Since we had already arrived at the Jungmun Resort, we planned to go to the Teddy Bear Museum so that we did not get wet. My mom loved this place a lot and keep asking to take a picture. The TV Drama "Goong" was filming at this location.

Saeas Hotel

By the time we finished visiting Teddy Bear Museum, the rain had stopped. We went to Saeas Hotel where the "Secret Garden" was filming. When we were there, there are couple of restaurants. We entered one of them and had Pumpkin PatBingSu. It was very delicious and my mom thought that was the best patbingsu that she had ever eaten in South Korea throughout our trip.

Jusangjeolli Cliff

The Jusangjeolli was stone pillars piled up along the coast. This was formed when the lava from Hallasan Mountain erupted into the sea of Jungmun. They were rock pillars shaped like cubes or hexagons of various sizes and almost seem as if stone masons had carved them out.

We visited this convention center thinking that there was a lotte mart inside. There is nothing inside when we visited except the duty free store. The running man episode 57 was filming inside this building with guest Cha Tae Hyun and Shin Se Kyung.

Hyatt Regency Jeju

ICC was the last stop for today. We then checked-in to the hotel at Hyatt Regency Jeju. The receptionist welcomed us at the hotel and let me know that they had upgraded my room to a suite. She asked us if I wanted a point or a bottle of wine as a diamond member. I chose a bottle of wine. Our room located in the last floor, the same floor where the executive lounge located. I would rate this hotel at 5/5 for the service, room, view, and breakfast. Please click this link  for my review on Hyatt Regency Jeju.

Jeju Mawon

After got in to our room, we took a rest and got ready to go out to eat dinner after that. Since everyone was tired, we decided to eat somewhere near our hotel. I remembered that I saw a nice restaurant on the way to the hotel this afternoon. The restaurant located in front of the Shilla hotel. Everyone was okay to go there. The name of the restaurant was Jeju Mawon.

The advertisement in front of the entrance of the restaurant

Dining room inside the restaurant
The view from the entrance to the restaurant was amazing. The buildings was old style like hanok. After we sit inside and I looked at the menu, I just realized that they serves horse meat. That was the reason I saw the picture of the horse on the advertisement board at the front entrance. All of us did not eat horse meet and the only available food was black pork. This restaurant served BBQ style only. The black pork in here was not good at all, way far from the black pork that we ate yesterday at Jeju City. I would rate 3.5/5. The high score due to its picturesque restaurant. I would recommend people who eat horse meat to try this restaurant. I heard that this restaurant was popular because of its horse meat.
